Lyophilized material is more robust than people assume
Freeze-dried peptide is a dry solid, and most degradation pathways that matter — hydrolysis, deamidation, microbial growth — need water to proceed. That is why lyophilized vials survive ambient transit that would ruin a reconstituted solution. It is not a licence to ignore temperature, but it does mean short domestic transit at ambient is generally acceptable for stable sequences.
When cold packing genuinely matters
- Sequences with known thermal sensitivity or oxidation-prone residues
- Summer routing through hot regional hubs and unconditioned delivery vehicles
- Any shipment that will sit at a destination before someone stores it
- Longer transit windows, especially anything crossing a customs boundary
How transit distance compounds risk
Time at temperature is the variable
Degradation is cumulative. A vial does not care that a package was labeled express; it cares how many hours it spent above its stability window. Every additional handoff adds hours, and international shipments add a customs hold of unpredictable length on top.
Domestic routing shortens the window
Shipping from a US facility to a US destination typically means one to two days in transit with no customs interruption. That is the single largest lever on how much heat exposure a vial accumulates.
What to check when a shipment arrives
- Vial integrity — intact stopper, no cracks, no loose crimp
- The powder cake — a collapsed or melted cake suggests heat exposure
- Any discoloration relative to the expected appearance
- Batch number on the label against the batch on your order
- Move to the documented storage condition immediately rather than after unpacking everything
How we pack and route
Orders leave our Texas facility with insulated packing appropriate to the compound and the season, and everything ships domestically so there is no customs hold. Local hand delivery is available across the Permian Basin and several Texas metros, which removes carrier transit entirely for those addresses.
